Mrs. Herman Abels Dies At Hospital
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Bethany Presbyterian Church for Mrs. Herman Abels of Palermo township, who died at 2:45 p.m. Friday in the Grundy County Memorial Hospital.
Dr. F. J. Langenberg presided at the funeral. Burial was in the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church northeast of Holland.
Mrs. Abels, 79, at the time of her death, had suffered a stroke in August, 1956, from which she never fully recovered.
She entered the hospital 10 days prior to her passing Friday afternoon. Death was attributed to uremia.
Anna Christena Stahl was born January 16, 1878, in East Friesland, Germany, the daughter of John and Trientje Stahl. She came to Grundy county from Germany in 1881 with her parents and three brothers, and settled in Colfax township.
She was married to Herman Abels on May 3, 1900, at the Stahl home in Colfax township. Mr. Abels died December 5, 1945.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Roy Redfern (Tena) of Reinbeck, and Mrs. Lester Bloxham (Carrie) of Grundy Center; four brothers, Fred of Brownsdale, Minn., John of Ocheyedan, Andrew of Holland and Herman of Dike; one sister, Mrs. Henry Schoonhoven of Freeport, Ill.; and four grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Abels was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Jake and Jurgen.
