Viola M. Groote (1918-2010)
Viola Myrtle Groote, 91, of Independence, Mo., formerly of Grundy Center, died Thursday, Jan. 28, in Independence, Mo.
She was born May 2, 1918, in Holland, daughter of Jacob and Wilhamina Frankin Stahl. On Feb. 2, 1939, she married Benjamin Elze Groote in Holland. He died June 6, 2005.
Mrs. Groote was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, Grundy Center, where she was active in the Presbyterian Women, taught Sunday School, and served as a deacon and youth group leader.
Survived by: a son, Marvin L. (Adele) of Baton Rouge, La.; two daughters, Donna M. (Dennis) Haines of Independence, Mo., and Glenna R. Foutch of Hudson; 10 grandchildren, Edwyn (Penni) Groote, Daniel (Mary) Haines, David (Therese) Haines, Sonya Henningsen, Darla (Craig) Haines Mills, Anthony (Tina) Groote, Keith (Melissa) Hall, Timothy (Diana) Groote, Julie Foutch and Richard (Jennifer) Foutch; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: a sister, Lillian Dieken.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bethany Presbyterian Church, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, both of Grundy Center. Public visitation from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Arrangements by Heckart Funeral Home, Sedalia, Mo.
Memorials: may be directed to the church or Gideons International.
Viola enjoyed cooking, cross stitch, knitting, and reading. She was a member of the Gideon Auxiliary.
