Mrs. D. D. Dieken Dies at Hospital
Mrs. D. D. Dieken died at 10:30 Monday forenoon at the Grundy Hospital, where she had been a patient four weeks. She had been in failing health the past year and had been in the hospital at Rochester for observation and treatment. She was afflicted with cancer. She was 71 years old.
Mrs. Dieken's maiden name was Maggie Bakker. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harm Bakker. She was born on a farm in Lincoln township November 28, 1885, and she grew up there.
On February 16, 1910, Maggie Bakker and D. D. Dieken were married. They began their life together on a farm in Colfax township, where they lived until 1923. After that time they moved to Grundy Center, which has since been their home.
Mrs. Dieken was an active member and a regular attendant of the Colfax Center Presbyterian church.
A prayer service will be held in the Engelkes Funeral Home at 10:30 Thursday morning. The casket will be open before the church service. Services will be at the Colfax Center Presbyterian church at two o'clock. The service will be conducted by Rev. Wiert Eekhoff. Burial will be in the Colfax church cemetery.
Surviving are the husband and one daughter, Mrs. C. P. Dudden, Grundy Center. Other surviving members of her family are her brother, Walter H. Bakker, and a sister, Mrs. Catherine Graves, both from Grundy Center.
