Obituary Of Herman J. Stahl

Herman J. Stahl passed away at his home in Dike, Iowa, at 3:05 Monday morning, July 10.

He had been in failing health for many years, and in February 1960 became afflicted with leukemia. During the past year he was hospitalized in the Grundy County Memorial Hospital, the Rochester Clinic, Minn., and the Evangelical hospital in Marshalltown.

Funeral services were held at the Engelkes Funeral Home in Grundy Center, Thursday, July 13th, and later at the Colfax Center Presbyterian church, near Holland, where he was a member since Sept. 2, 1917.

The Colfax Center quartet rendered two beautiful numbers in song--namely, Marvelous Grace and That Beautiful Land, with Karen Kruger, pianist. Rev. Wiert Eekhoff spoke from the text Matt. 25, verses 1 thru 13.

Herman J. Stahl, son of Jan and Trientje Stahl, was born in Lincoln twp., Grundy county, Ia., March 10, 1887.

In Nov. 1915 he was united in marriage to Gladys Fletcher. This union was blest with one daughter (Beulah) Mrs. Marvin Graves of Dike, Iowa.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife Gladys; daughter Beulah (Mrs. Marvin Graves), son-in-law Marvin Graves; two grandsons Wendell and Dan Graves, all of Dike, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister in infancy, brothers Jurghen, John, Jake and Andrew, and one sister, Mrs. Anna Abels.

One sister, Mrs. Grace Schoonhoven of Freeport, Illinois, survives and his brother Fred of Austin, Minn., who passed away two days later.
