Margaret L. Werkman, 85

Margaret L. Werkman, 85, of Holland, died June 28 at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center following a lengthy illness. Funeral services were July 2 at Holland Christian Reformed Church. Burial followed at Holland City Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Margaret was born November 19, 1917, at home in Franklin County, the daughter of Charles and Tillie (Venenga) Toomsen. She attended Maysville rural country school, District No. 8. On January 30, 1946, Margaret was united in marriage to George Werkman at the Holland Christian Reformed Church. Margaret and George lived in Holland until 1961, when they moved to Mount Vernon. While in Mount Vernon, Margaret worked for various grocery stores as a meat wrapper. At the Mount Vernon Super-Value, Margaret was lovingly known as the bubble gum lady. Margaret later worked as a food demonstrator and as a daycare provider. In 1990, Margaret and George retired and moved back to Holland. Margaret was a member of the Holland Christian Reformed Church, and a former member of First Presbyterian Church in Mount Vernon. She loved to cook and to flower garden.

She is survived by her husband; one daughter, Laura Werkman of Mount Vernon; one son, Steve Werkman and his wife Karla of Greencastle, MO; one grandson; one brother, Duane Toomsen and his wife Erna of Des Moines; and two sisters, Lu Etta Klein of Story City and Berniece Sealman of Arvada, CO.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, John Toomsen and Wilbert Toomsen.
