Jeanette Tack, 90

Jeanette Tack, 90, of Grundy Center, died April 12 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center. Funeral services were April 15 at the American Lutheran Church, Grundy Center. Burial followed at the Holland Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.

Jeanette was born November 30, 1912, daughter of Evert and Mary (Ross) Riekena. Jean was born west of Wellsburg on the home farm now owned by nephew, Harlan Riekena. Jean attended country school just a few hundred yards east of the farm home. She graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1929. She worked as a bookkeeper and secretary for 3 1/2 years for Claus Ross. Jean married Melvin Tack on March 12, 1936 in the parsonage of the Evangelical and Reformed Church north of Wellsburg. Jean and Melvin started farming in 1941 on a farm north of Wellsburg and continued to farm until their retirement in February of 1980. They moved to Grundy Center in February of 1980 and she entered Hospice care at the Grundy Memorial Hospital on April 9, 2003.

Jean loved to cook and was always one to try new recipes. She enjoyed traveling and visiting relatives. She was always interested in her sons and their families and enjoyed watching them succeed in their careers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John and Emery; and a great-granddaughter, Megan.

She is survived by her husband, Melvin; three sons, Royce (Norma) of Osage, Dennis (Linda) of Kimberling City, MO and Leland (Wendy) of Johnston; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Diane Walbaum of Grundy Center.
