Arvilla F. Aalfs, 81

Arvilla F. Aalfs, 81, of Holland, died October 12, at her residence. Funeral services were October 15 at Holland Christian Reformed Church. Burial followed at the Holland cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.

Arvilla was born June 9, 1922, at home in rural Grundy County, the daughter of Tom and Mary (Venenga) Dreesman. She attended country school in rural Grundy County at Palermo #4. On November 26, 1942, Arvilla was united in marriage to Harm L. Aalfs at the parsonage of the Holland Christian Reformed Church. They lived on a farm in rural Grundy County until January 1970, when they moved to Holland. Arvilla was a homemaker and had also worked as a sales clerk for a number of years at the Style Shop and the Red Umbrella in Grundy Center. Arvilla was an active and faithful member of the Holland Christian Reformed Church. She had taught Sunday School for many years and she had been involved with the Ladies Guild. Arvilla was an excellent seamstress, often making clothes for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed bird watching and was a very good cook.

She is survived by her husband, Harm Aalfs of Holland; two sons, Michael Aalfs and his wife Marlene of Gladbrook and Terry Aalfs and his wife Debra of Wellsburg; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Lois Werkman and her husband Jake of Cedar Falls; and two sisters-in-law, June Dreesman of Grundy Center and Edris Dreesman of Gladbrook.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Edwin, Glen, Clarence and Lloyd Dreesman; and one sister, Leona Geosling.
