Alvin Hook Services Held

Alvin Hook, of Grundy Center, passed away of natural causes on Wednesday, July 24, at Westbrook Acres Nursing Home in Gladbrook, having attained the age of 79 years, 2 months and 7 days.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 27, at the Holland Christian Reformed Church in Holland at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Gary Nibbelink officiating. Burial followed in Holland Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Sherman Hook, Laurence Graves, Tom Simms, Roger Hook, Dennis Hook and Jim Meyer.

A memorial fund has been established.

Born May 17, 1917, in Colfax Township, Grundy County, Alvin was the son of George and Minnie (Getting) Hook. He was united in marriage to Leola Hinders on February 14, 1940. The couple made their home in Grundy county where Alvin farmed.

Alvin became a resident of the Long Term Care Unit in the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center in June of 1995, and in August was transferred to Westbrook Acres Nursing Home in Gladbrook.

He was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Holland where he served as deacon.

Alvin will be remembered for his fun-loving and giving nature. He was "Grandpa" to lots of people and was fond of fishing, dogs, mowing water-ways and missionary work.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Harm, Fritz and Louie Hook; and 1 daughter, Marilyn Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Leola; 1 daughter, Paula Cramer and husband Allen of Grundy Center; 2 grandchildren, Chad and Jodi Cramer; and 1 brother, Raymond Hook of Aplington.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
