Military Rites For George Heronimus

George H. Heronimus, of Holland, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 1995, at his home in Holland, Iowa, of cancer, having attained the age of 77 years, 11 months and 11 days.

Memorial services were held Friday, December 1, 1995, at the Holland Christian Reformed Church in Holland, Iowa, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Gary Nibbelink officiating. Burial followed in the Holland Cemetery with military graveside rites by the American Legion Post #349 AMVETS 17.

Honorary Pallbearers were Jerry Bakker, Randall Bakker, Jay Brower, T.J. Heronimus, Jim Kruse, and Paul Schoon.

Born December 17, 1917, in Palermo Township, Grundy county, Iowa, George was the son of Heye and Alice (Franken) Heronimus. He grew up and received his education in Holland. On June 12, 1942, George was united in marriage to Grace A. Schmidt in Ft. Leonard, Missouri.

George served his country during World War II and the Korean conflict. He was a member of the Holland Christian Reformed Church in Holland, and was employed by the Grundy County Maintenance Department as a machine operator and Maintenance Supervisor.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Tom and Paul Heronimus, one infant brother, Harold; and three sisters, Hazel Abels, Gertrude Hansen, and Lillian Heronimus.

Survivors include his wife, Grace; one son, David Heronimus of Holland; four grandchildren, Michael, Todd, Sara, and Katy; and six sisters, Ella Paterni of Grundy Center, Tena Schoon of Holland, Mae Brower of Ackley, Elma Siefken, and DeLoris Bakker, both of Grundy Center, and Iva Dean Itzen of Cedar Falls.

A memorial fund has been established. The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of professional arrangements.
