Eugene Meester Services Held
Eugene H. Meester passed away Wednesday, October 11, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo of natural causes, having attained the age of 56 years, 6 months and 20 days.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 14, at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Robert Bartlett officiating. Burial followed in Holland Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Merle Bakker, Mervin Stensland, Don Luchtenburg, Gene Huisman, Jack Samo and Shawn Samo. Honorary pallbearers were Dick Conrad and Gene Fuls.
A memorial fund has been established.
Born March 21, 1939, in Marshalltown, Eugene Henry Meester was the son of Henry J. and Jennie (VanDeest) Meester. He grew up and received his education in Grundy county and was graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1957. On January 26, 1959, Gene was united in marriage to Nola K. Flessner in Wellsburg. Gene and Nola farmed and raised livestock north of Grundy Center.
Gene was a member of Bethany Presbyterian church in Grundy Center and of the Izaak Walton League of Grundy county. He loved fishing and the out-of-doors, and especially enjoyed outings with family and friends at his farm pond. He will be remembered for his generous nature and wonderful sense of humor.
Gene was preceded in death by his father.
Survivors include his wife, Nola; 1 son, Dale Meester and wife Lisa of Holland; 1 daughter, Dawn Meester of Holland; 1 granddaughter, Michelle; his mother, Jennie Meester of Grundy Center; 1 sister, Carol Schipper and husband Duane of Dike; as well as several nieces and nephews.
The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
