Lyle Davis Services Held

Lyle Ellsworth Davis, 79, of Eldora, died on Monday, August 7, at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center.

Services were held on Thursday, August 10, at the Christian Reformed Church in Holland with interment in the Holland Cemetery. Rev. Gary Nibbelink officiated. Biersborn Funeral Home of Union handled arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Lyle Davis was born August 11, 1915, to Wilbur and Ethel Downing Davis in Edin township of Marshall county in Collins. The family moved to New Providence in 1924, and he graduated from New Providence high school in 1933. He received a degree in accounting from the American Institute of Business in Des Moines. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II.

He was married to Helen V. Hinders on April 7, 1941, in Wellsburg. Following their marriage they lived in New Providence and later in Eldora.

He did carpentry work for several years, worked for the Lawn Hill Cooperative for 13 years and the Dike Farmers Cooperative for 13 years. He retired in 1980 due to ill health.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Joseph Anthony of Eldora and James Stuart and his wife Kris of Muscatine; 2 grandsons, Daniel Lynn and his wife Patti and Stuart James of Muscatine; 2 great-grandsons; 1 sister, Ina Pemberton and her husband Enos of Eldora; 1 brother, Mansel Davis of Marshalltown; 1 aunt and 1 uncle of Collins; many nieces and nephews.
