Jake Schoneman Services Held

Jacob (Jake) Schoneman, of Holland, and formerly of Aplington, passed away Tuesday, June 7, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, having attained the age of 84 years, 11 months and 7 days.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 10, at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church in rural Holland at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Dick Kuiper, Jr. officiating. Burial followed in the Holland Cemetery, Holland.

Pallbearers were Mark Schoneman, Ronald Schoneman, Vernon Schoneman, Randall Schoneman, Norman Miller and James Miller.

A memorial fund has been established.

Jake Schoneman was born June 30, 1909, in Aplington, the son of Frank and Flora (Krull) Schoneman. He received his education in the Aplington schools.

On June 30, 1949, Jake was united in marriage to Mary Smith in the Holland Christian Reformed Church.

He was a self-employed carpenter by trade and loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and trapping. He mounted and displayed many of his prize catches.

He served in World War II from April of 1942 until October, 1945, as a Squadron Carpenter.

He was a member of Pleasant Valley Reformed Church, rural Holland.

Jake was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers, John, Nanno, Folkert, and Frank; and by 3 sisters, Tilda Kramer, Nancy Renken and one in infancy.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; 1 sister, Kathryn (Mrs. Joe) Miller of Aplington; sisters-in-law, Hermina Schoneman, Viola Hanson, and sister and brother-in-law, Hazel and Benjamin Hook; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
