Harm Itzen Services Held

Harm W. Itzen passed away Wednesday, December 7, at his home in Holland of a heart attack, having attained the age of 69 years, 8 months and 22 days.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 9, at the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Paul C. Nelson officiating. Burial followed in the Holland Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Arnold Tjepkes, Russ North, J. P. Reeves, Wilbur Petersen, Clarence Voss, Paul Voss and Ron Voss. Honorary pallbearers were Bud Weseman and Rex Hummel.

A memorial fund has been established.

Harm Willard Itzen was born March 15, 1925, on a farm in Grundy County, the son of W. J. and Christina (Smit) Itzen. At age four, Harm moved with his family to Holland where he lived for the rest of his life.

He received his education in Holland, after school worked as a hired hand, as a private trucker, factory worker and later was employed at Clay Equipment for 21 years, retiring in 1982. Since his retirement, Harm mowed lawns and did janitorial work. He treasured his family and will be remembered for the devotion he showed his wife, children and grandchildren.

On March 15, 1945, he was united in marriage to Lily Ruth Harms at St. Paul's Lutheran Church Parsonage in Wellsburg.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wellsburg.

Harm was preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother, Henry; and by one infant son, Steven Joel Itzen.

Survivors include his wife, Lily; 2 daughters, Connie Lenius and husband John of Waterloo and Candace Itzen of Des Moines; 2 sons, James and wife Pauline and William and wife Bridget, all of Grundy Center; 7 grandchildren: Joshua, Jamie, Kristin, Levi, Lane, Echo and Nicholas; 1 great-grandson, David; and 1 sister, Fannie Voss of Grundy Center.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
