Edwin Brower Services Held

Edwin Brower, of Holland, passed away at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center having attained the age of 79 years, 2 months and 13 days.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 11 at the Holland Christian Reformed Church in Holland at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor John Kroon officiating.

Pallbearers were Charles Kruse, Robert Brower, Charles Brower, Bernard Brower, Arthur Henze, Don Ennenga, and Wayne Eilers.

Burial followed at the Holland Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by Grundy Center American Legion Post #349, and AMVETS 17.

A memorial fund has been established.

Ed was born March 25, 1914, in Holland the son of Dick and Minnie (Johnson) Brower. He was united in marriage to Alma June Lingelbach of Holland on November 10, 1940 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Ed farmed for several years in Grundy County, then became a local independent trucker, retiring in 1974. He served his country during World War II in the Army, from 1941 until 1945.

He was a volunteer Fireman for Holland until his retirement. Ed was a member of the Holland Christian Reformed Church where he served on the council and as head usher for many years. He was a member of Amvets 17. His interests included fishing and traveling. Ed was instrumental in starting the Senior Citizens Group in Holland.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Carl; and by one sister, Esther Aswegan.

Survivors include his wife, Alma June; one brother, Calvin Brower of Allen, TX; two sisters, Alice Reisinger of Ackley, and Berdean Graham of Cedar Falls; several nieces and nephews; and many friends and neighbors, including Don and Marie Ennenga, Keith, Julie and Mike, neighbors for 36 years.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
