Services Held For Alma June Brower

Alma June Brower, of Holland, passed away Wednesday, December 8, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center of cancer, having attained the age of 79 years, 10 months and 1 day.

Funeral services were held Saturday, December 11, at the Holland Christian Reformed Church in Holland at 10 a.m. with Pastor John Kroon officiating.

Pallbearers were Charles Kruse, Robert Brower, Douglas Tjaden, Jack Westerman, Arthur Henze and Wayne Eilers.

Burial followed in the Holland Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established.

Alma June (Lingelbach) Brower was born February 7, 1914, in Holland, the daughter of Ed and Kate (Frerichs) Lingelbach. She attended Holland school and graduated from Grundy Center High School. She also attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls.

Alma June was united in marriage to Edwin Brower on November 10, 1940, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

She was a member of the Holland Christian Reformed Church in Holland. Alma June and Ed donated the land on which the church is built. She served her church as Sunday School, Bible School and Catechism teacher for 30 years, and also helped start the Young Peoples League, known now as the Women's League Meeting of the Churches of Northeast Iowa. She belonged to the King's Daughters, which joined the Young Women's Guild. Alma June was also pianist for the church.

Colfax Homemakers was first organized in Alma June's home. She and Ed were also instrumental in beginning the Senior Citizen's Group in Holland. Alma June and Mae Kruse were chairpersons for the Holland Centennial in 1977. Alma June also played an active part in the band concerts in Holland on Thursday evenings. She was a member of the Grundy Center Woman's Club.

She was employed at the Holland Post Office from 1960 - 1976.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed on June 7; her parents; and one infant sister of two days.

Survivors include several cousins, nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and neighbors.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
