John Venenga Died Friday
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 in the Holland Christian Reformed church for John B. Venenga, 74, who died Friday evening, January 6, 1978 at 6:40 p.m. in the Grundy County Memorial hospital. He had been a patient in the hospital four days. Rev. Karl Wiersum officiated.
Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Graves sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Going Down The Valley", accompanied by Mrs. Jake Buskohl, who also played selected prelude and postlude numbers. Casket bearers were Jasper Westerman, Wayne Eilers, Clarence Henze, William Hinders, Jr., Leland Conradi and Alvin Meyer. Ushers were Ed Brower and Ed Schoolman. Mrs. Tena Franken and Mrs. Edw. Brower were floral attendants. Clarence Kruse and Dick Conrad provided cars for the family. Interment was in the Holland cemetery. Friends and relatives returned to the church following the committal service for fellowship and refreshments.
John was born May 8, 1903 in Palermo township, Grundy county, Iowa the son of Buss and Lena Stoehr Venenga. On December 30, 1928 John and Lena Pabst were united in marriage at the Salem Lutheran church, rural Parkersburg. Following their marriage they moved to Holland where he was in the auto-garage business. In 1942 he moved to California where he worked in the shipyards until 1945. They then returned to Holland where he continued in the auto-garage. He was a Ford dealer from 1935 to 1970, retiring at that time.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Lena, one sister, Mrs. Etta Sonnenberg of Holland, two brothers, Bert Venenga of Hampton and Ben Venenga of Grundy Center.
The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. A memorial fund has been established.
