John VanderHolt Died at Home

Funeral services for John A. VanderHolt, 49, of Holland were held Friday afternoon at 1:30 in the Holland Christian Reformed church. John died at his home Wednesday afternoon, October 25 from what authorities have tentatively judged to be self initiated carbon monoxide poisoning.

Rev. Karl Wiersum officiated at the service. Mrs. Raymond Hinders played "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art" as musical interludes. She also played selected prelude and postlude numbers.

Casket bearers were Todd Onnen, Rodney Onnen, Gregg VanderHolt, Grant VanderHolt, James E. Abels and Raymond Hinders. Ushers were Jack Westerman and Edwin Brower. Floral attendants were Mrs. Harm Itzen and Mrs. Margaret Meyer. Burial was in the Holland Christian Reformed church cemetery.

John was born May 13, 1929 near Parkersburg, Iowa, the son of Harm and Fannie Engelkes VanderHolt. He made his home with his parents, living near Parkersburg, Dike and Buck Grove before moving to Holland in June 1965. He farmed for various farmers in this area. He was preceded in death by his father who died January 23, 1978.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Fannie VanderHolt, three sisters, Mrs. Ben (Wilhelmina) VanHove of Steamboat Rock, Mrs. Merle (Agnes) Meyer of rural Grundy Center and Mrs. Harriet Onnen of Grundy Center, also one brother, Willard of Parkersburg.

A memorial fund has been established. The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
