Rites at Holland For Dick Oltman
Funeral services were held at the Holland Christian Reformed church Thursday, April 3 for Dick Oltman, Sr., 87, who died March 31 at the Allen Memorial hospital in Waterloo. Rev. John Entingh officiated.
Mrs. Henry Siefken and LaVern Dieken sang two duet numbers, "My God And I" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Mrs. Harlan Beninga was accompanist. Pallbearers were John Oltman, Dicky Oltman, Richard Oltman, Roger Oltman, Dennis Dreesman and Steve Druvenga. Mrs. Ed Brower and Mrs. Jack Westerman took care of the flowers. Ushers were Harm Aalfs and Jack Westerman. Burial was in the Holland cemetery. Following the service at the cemetery family and friends returned to the church for fellowship.
Mr. Oltman was born October 5, 1887 in Germany, the son of Reinert and Hilka Reiners Oltman. At the age of 16 he came to America with his family, settling in Hardin County, Iowa. Dick grew up there. On February 3, 1914 he was united in marriage to Alice Swygman. They lived in Butler county awhile before moving to Grundy county. They then moved to Stout where they lived 8 years. Twenty years ago he retired and the family moved to their present home in Holland. He was a member of the Holland Christian Reformed church. Mr. Oltman had been a patient at the Allen Memorial Hospital 31 days.
He is survived by his wife Alice, four sons, Ernest, R4, Cedar Falls; Reiner, rural Hudson; Ben, rural Dike; Dick, Jr. Grundy Center; four daughters, Mrs. Henry (Helen) Druvenga of rural Parkersburg; Mrs. Sam (Trena) Dreesman, rural Dike; Mrs. William (Fanny) Bruns of Dike and Mrs. James (Jadean) Tripp of Reinbeck; also 28 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, three sisters and two brothers.
A memorial fund has been established.
