Council Member Tom Dreesman Dies Monday
Tom Dreesman, 83, a member of the Holland town council and a longtime area resident, died at 5 a.m. Monday at his home in Holland.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Holland Christian Reformed Church with Rev. John Entingh officiating. Burial will be in the Holland cemetery.
He had been in failing health for some time.
Tom Dreesman was born in Eastfriesland Germany on September 19, 1888, the son of Tamme and Gretje Theerman Dreesman.
He came to the United States with his parents in 1891, and they settled on a farm near Holland.
He was married to Mary Venenga on February 21, 1912, at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church by Rev. J. E. Drake.
The couple farmed southwest of Holland until they retired and moved to Holland in 1942.
He was a member of the Holland Christian Reformed Church, and had been a member of the Holland town council for 20 years at the time of his death.
Survivors include his widow; three sons, Edwin of rural Dike, and Glenn and Lloyd of Grundy Center; and three daughters, Mrs. Leon (Leona) Goesling of North Lake, Ill., Mrs. Harm (Arvilla) Aalfs of Holland, and Mrs. Jake (Lois) Werkman of Cedar Falls.
Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Ben P. Heronimus of Holland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Clarence, who was killed in World War II; and two half-brothers, two sisters and four half-sisters.
Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established.
