George Hut, 91, Dies In Waterloo

Funeral services for George Hut, 91, of Holland, who died on Wednesday afternoon at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, were held Saturday afternoon in the Christian Reformed Church in Holland.

Rev. John Entingh officiated at the services. Burial was in the Holland cemetery.

Mr. Hut had been a patient in the hospital a week before his death. Previous to this he had been a resident of the Lutheran Home in Cedar Falls.

He was born in the Netherlands, June 15, 1878, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eltje Hut. On Nov. 3, 1900 he was married to Gerrichien Dopper. They came to Grundy county on Aug. 22, 1912 where they farmed near Wellsburg, then moved to Holland in 1929. Mrs. Hut died April 22, 1938.

On Sept. 5, 1938 he was married to Mrs. Elizabeth Witbaard.

He is survived by his widow; 6 step-children, Mrs. Walter (Alida) Saathoff of Parkersburg, Klaas Witbaard of Buena Park, Calif., Mrs. Betsy Kelly of Sacramento, Calif., Mrs. Tom (Maria) Papalexis of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Jerry (Jo) Sorkness of Ft. Benton, Mont. and Mrs. Ed (Nell) Gingerich of Torrence, Calif.; 17 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by one step-daughter.

Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the arrangements.
