Ludwig Beenken Buried Wednesday

Ludwig Beenken, 80, retired farmer and former Holland resident, was buried this Wednesday afternoon in the Holland cemetery following services in the Engelkes Funeral Home and American Lutheran church at Grundy Center.

Mr. Beenken died suddenly of a heart attack at his home in Waterloo at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Ludwig Beenken was born Mar. 1, 1877, in Ostfriesland, Germany, the son of Luitjen and Elizabeth Marks Beenken. He came to Grundy county with his parents in 1897.

He married Wubke Bink on June 30, 1912, at Cedar Falls. The couple farmed near Stout until he retired in 1934 and they moved to Holland. They lived in the house now owned by Eilt Ennenga. Several years ago they moved from Holland to Waterloo.

Survivors include two sons, Louis and Reint, both of Grundy Center, three daughters, Mrs. William Anfinson of Waterloo, Mrs. Coert Bunger and Mrs. Henry Eckhoff, both of Wellsburg.

Three step-sons, Luitjen of Morrison, Conrad of Los Angeles, Calif., and George of Reinbeck, two step-daughters, Mrs. Dick Uhlenhopp of Parkersburg and Mrs. Martin Dayton of Seattle, Wash.

Also a sister, Mrs. John Walbaum of Grundy Center, a brother, Herman Beenken of Grundy Center, 17 grandchildren, 18 step-grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, a stepdaughter, three brothers, a sister and a grandchild.
