R. Lindaman Dies In SUI Hospital
Rieke Lindaman died at two o'clock Monday morning in the University hospital at Iowa City. He had been afflicted with hardening of the arteries several years. Four years ago he had one of his legs amputated. In late months his other leg became affected and it had been decided to amputate that leg also, but death came before the second operation was performed. He was 88 years old.
Mr. Lindaman was born in Eastfriesland, Germany, Sept. 26th, 1866. He came to this country and to this county in his youth and much of his active life was spent on a Grundy county farm.
March 9, 1895, Rieke Lindaman and Anna Hoodjer were married. They lived on a Grundy county farm and in the town of Holland until 1939, when they moved to Grundy Center. Mrs. Lindaman died in 1945. The last two years of his life Mr. Lindaman made his home with his two daughters in Grundy Center.
Surviving are three sons and six daughters. The sons are Arnold, Parkersburg; George from Shell Rock and John from Finchford. The surviving daughters are Mrs. Will Hinders, Holland; Mrs. Dena Long, Grundy Center; Mrs. Henry Bockes, Grundy Center; Mrs. Joe Klar, Grundy Center; Mrs. Jake Jacobs and Mrs. Ewaldt Klunder, Clarksville. There are 22 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Other surviving relatives are three sisters, Mrs. Reka Meyer, Parkersburg; Mrs. Minnie Schaper, Estherville; Mrs. Mattie Johnson, Stout. One brother and two sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Wednesday in the Engelkes Funeral Home, Grundy Center, at one o'clock and at 1:30 in Bethany Presbyterian church, Grundy Center, with Rev. F. J. Langenberg officiating. Burial was in the cemetery at Holland.
