Engelke Doeden Died Saturday

Engelke Doeden, who spent much of his active life on Grundy county farms, died last Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Dena Penticoff, at New Hartford. He was 74 years old.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday at the Methodist church in New Hartford. Burial was in the Pleasant Valley Reformed church cemetery west of Fern.

Mr. Doeden was born in Germany, June 22, 1879. He came to America with his parents when he was a child. The family made their home on a farm in north Grundy. January 16, 1906, he and Ella Bergman were married. They farmed in Grundy and Butler counties until they retired in New Hartford. The wife, one son and one daughter died a number of years ago.

Surviving are six sons and three daughters. The sons are: George and Omke, Allison; Joe, Clarksville; James, Dubuque; Thomas, Monrovia, California; Ernest, of Iowa Falls. The daughters are: Mrs. Anna Ramige, Shell Rock; Mrs. Grace Johnson, Cedar Falls, and Mrs. Penticoff. There are 13 grandchildren; two brothers, Harm Doeden, Sibley, and Henry, Dike. The one surviving sister is Mrs. Grace Meyer, Cedar Falls.
