Mrs. Aaltje Arends

Mrs. Aaltje Arends, wife of J. P. Arends, was born Dec. 1, 1857, in Bunderhee, Amt Wener, Ostfriesland. She came to this country with her brother and settled in Stephenson County, Illinois, in 1882. She became the wife of Mr. Arends on Oct. 22, 1885. Six children were born to them, one girl and five boys, one boy dying in infancy. Mrs. Arends was a very faithful wife and mother. She was a professing christian and a faithful member of both church and the Ladies Aid Society. She died at the age of 51 years, 4 months and 13 days. Her remains were interred in the cemetery of the Reformed church, Pleasant Valley township. The funeral took place Sunday the 17th and was very largely attended. Rev. D. Schafer conducted the service and preached the sermon from Psalm 55-23. The bereaved have the sympathy of all their friends.
