Mrs. Lewis Gerloff Died Last Sunday

Mrs. Lewis Gerloff died at her home in Grundy Center at eight o'clock Sunday evening. She was afflicted with a heart ailment the past three years, which was the cause of her death.

Mrs. Gerloff's maiden name was Maria Flater. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christ Flater. She was born on a farm in Colfax township, March 17, 1882, and she resided in Grundy county all of her life.

On March 26, 1908, she was married to Lewis Gerloff. The couple started life together on a Colfax township farm and they lived there continually. The husband died in 1948. Mrs. Gerloff remained on the farm three years after her husband's death, after which she moved to Grundy Center where she resided with a daughter and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren. Surviving are two sons, George from Holland, and Henry from New Hartford. Her two daughters are Mrs. Louise Ross, Grundy Center, and Mrs. August Abbas, Grundy Center. There are 15 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Other survivors are one brother, August Flater, Grundy Center, and one sister, Mrs. Helen Freese.

Funeral services will be Thursday afternoon at the Engelkes Funeral home and later at the Reformed church two miles west of Fern with Rev. Paul Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in the cemetery adjoining the church.
