Joe Arends' Baby Burned to Death

The baby son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Arends, of Fern, met with a terrible death yesterday when it was so badly burned that it died last night. It is not fully understood how the accident happened but it is thought the child got possession of matches and the flame started in that way. The little boy was alone for a short time and when an older child came into the house the little fellow's clothes were on fire. It ran to find its mother but before the flames were extinguished the burns had nearly proved fatal. Medical aid was immediately summoned from Grundy Center, but the child's injuries were too great to be overcome and it died last night. It is one of the saddest cases that has occurred in this vicinity for a long time, and the sympathy of the entire community goes out to the bereaved parents.
