Services Tuesday For Ordie Arends

Mrs. Ordie Arends, RR2, Parkersburg, age 86, passed away at 7:45 a.m. Sunday, November 23 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center where she had been a patient for 16 days.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 25 at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church, rural Holland, with the Rev. Carl Regnerus officiating.

Mrs. Jim Willms sang "Where We Never Grow Old" and "Safe In The Arms Of Jesus." She was accompanied by Mrs. Clarence Walterman.

Serving as pallbearers were Mrs. Arends' grandsons, Duane Arends, Ronald Arends, Jay Arends, Randy Arends, Roger Arends, Joel Arends and Craig Arends.

Ushers were Charles Freese, George Krull, Glenn Patterson and Ernest Oltman.

Floral attendants were Mrs. Jake Kruger and Mrs. John Lucktenburg, Jr.

Burial was held in Pleasant Valley Reformed Church cemetery, rural Holland. Relatives and friends were invited back to the church following the committal service for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.

She was born October 24, 1894 near Wellsburg in Grundy county. She attained the age of 86 years and 30 days. Ordie was the daughter of Jacob and Jennie Harrenstein Rindels. On February 2, 1916 she was united in marriage to Joe Arends at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church parsonage. They farmed all their married life in Beaver township. Joe passed away August 1, 1973. She continued to live on the farm where she resided a total of 62 years. She was a member of the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one son Eldon; a great-grandson; and three brothers.

Those left to mourn her passing include five sons; Marlyn, rural Dike; Clarence, rural Reinbeck; Glen, Lee and Darrell, all of rural Parkersburg; one brother, Herman Rindels of Dike; two sisters, Mrs. Sara Alberts of Parkersburg and Mrs. Herman (Jeanette) Akkerman of Grundy Center; 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established. The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
