Obituary George Doeden

The following obituary was read by the pastor at the church service:

Geerd Hinderks Doeden was born at Visquard, Ostfriesland, October 20, 1859. He was baptized in the faith of our Lord shortly after his birth. He was united in marriage in 1879 with Antje Janssen Engelkes. This union was blessed with seven children, the youngest dying in infancy, and two others, Omko and Frances, dying at the ages of 15 and 17. In May, 1884, he came with his family to the United States. With the exception of a few years, he has always lived in Grundy County. At first he lived in Pleasant Valley township and moved from there in 1903 to a farm near Stout.

On June 30, 1902, his wife died, leaving him with six children. But he trusted in the Lord and toiled on from morning to night until he found success. The last 14 years he made his home with his son Henry and family where he was cared for with love and patience until he was called to his heavenly home June 7, 1935. He leaves to mourn his four children, three sons, Engelke at New Hartford, Harm at Sibley, and Henry at Reinbeck, and one daughter, Mrs. Henry Meyer at Reinbeck. One brother, George Rademaker, twenty grandchildren, besides many other relatives and friends.
