Frances Doeden, 100

Frances (Siemsen) Doeden, 100, of Grundy Center, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999, at the Grundy County Long Term Care Center in Grundy Center of heart failure.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, Oct. 31, at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church in rural Holland. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church.

Frances was born April 21, 1899, in Odebolt the daughter of Pastor Dirk and Margaret (Muller) Siemson. In 1903 she moved with her family to Monroe, SD. In 1908 the family moved to Parkersburg and attended the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church near Holland.

On March 10, 1921, she was united in marriage to Henry George Doeden at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church Parsonage in rural Holland by her father, Rev. Dirk Siemsen. They farmed in Grundy County for 49 years. They retired in 1970 and moved to their home in Fern. Henry preceded her in death in January 1983. In November she moved to Grundy Center. Frances was a member of the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church for 91 years.

Frances is survived by three children, Margaret Lawless and her husband W. P. "Buddie" of Hilton Head Island, SC; Gerald and his wife Dorothy of San Jacinto, CA; and Dick and his wife Nancy of Grand Rapids, MI; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; two brothers, Dr. Walter Siemsen and Rev. Calvin Siemsen; and two sisters, Gertrude Weeldreyer and Dorothea DeTrana.

Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the arrangements.
