Grandma Engelkes Is Called

Has Been a Resident of Grundy County For Many Years

Frauka VanHettinga Engelkes was born in Pilsum, Ostfriesland, Germany, March 11th, 1834, and passed away at the home of her son, Henry in Grundy Center, at three o'clock Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 9th, 1923, aged 88 years, 10 months and 29 days.

She was married to Engelke Engelkes in 1856 and to this union five sons and one daughter were born. The husband and father passed away in 1868.

Mrs. Engelkes came to America in 1884 and located in Grundy county where she has lived ever since. For nearly thirty years she kept house for her son, Omke, at Stout, but for the past five years has made her home with her sons, Henry and Ben. She leaves to mourn her death the three sons mentioned and three sisters, Mrs. Ben Harrenstein, of Holland, Mrs. Harm Klinger, Bridgewater, So. Dak., and one sister in Germany.

Funeral services were held this (Thursday) afternoon from the German Presbyterian church and interment was in the Siemsen cemetery two miles west of Fern.
