Trientje Pruis, Age 96, Dies
Mrs. Trientje Pruis of Grundy Center passed away at 2:35 a.m. Saturday, November 29, at the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital. She attained the age of 96 years, six months and 22 days.
Funeral services were held at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church, rural Holland, on Monday, December 1, at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Joel Brummel officiated.
Mrs. Larry DeVries, Mrs. Randy Arends and Mrs. Kenneth Luhring sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Saved By Grace." They were accompanied by Mrs. Clarence Walterman, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.
The casket bearers were Leslie Meester, Luverne Meester, Harlyn Meester, Russell Meester, Melvin Meester and Leon Meester.
The ushers were R. M. VanHauen and Jake Schoneman. Mrs. Herbert Johnson and Mrs. Alfred Meester were in charge of the floral arrangements.
Interment was in the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church Cemetery, rural Holland.
Relatives and friends were invited to the church following the committal services for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.
Mrs. Pruis was born May 7, 1890, in Grundy county, the daughter of Henry Meester and Trientje Klaassen Meester. She grew up in Colfax township and attended the Colfax rural school.
On February 18, 1916, she was united in marriage to Eilert Pruis at the Parkersburg Reformed Church. After their marriage, they lived on a farm at rural Holland until April of 1958, when she moved to Grundy Center. In March of 1981, she became a resident of the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital.
She was a member of the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church. Some of her favorite hobbies were cleaning, cooking and crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Eilert on December 5, 1957, one daughter, Gertie, on September 13, 1975, two infant sons, one grandson, five brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by two daughters, Henrietta and Mareka Pruis of Grundy Center; one son, Marlyn of Holland; two grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
A memorial fund has been established.
The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the arrangements.
