Nate Engelkes, 36, of Holland, Iowa, was born December 21, 1974, the son of Paul and Mary (Ferrell) Engelkes in Waterloo, Iowa. He graduated from Wellsburg-Steamboat Rock Community Schools in 1993. After two years of college, he pursued his love of farming.

Nate was united in marriage to Kelly Jo Palmer on June 26, 1999 at Pleasant Valley Reformed Church in rural Holland, Iowa. Nate and Kelly made their home in rural Holland, where they were currently living with their two sons, Dax and Tate.

Nate loved to farm and he chose that as his lifelong occupation. When Nate was not working he loved spending time with family and friends as well as golfing and vacationing.

Nate passed away Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparent, Jake and Matilda Engelkes, and his maternal grandfather, James Ferrell.

Nate is survived by his wife, Kelly of Holland; two sons, Daxton Jay and Tatem Chance, both at home; his parents, Paul and Mary Engelkes, Grundy Center; his brother, Evan Engelkes, Dike; and maternal grandmother, Alice Ferrell, Fairfield, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be 1:30 p.m., Thursday, May 5, 2011, at Pleasant Valley Reformed Church with burial in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, both in Holland.

Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday at Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg, and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church.
