Funeral Services For Henry Hook At Wellsburg Monday

Funeral services for Henry Hook, 80, were held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Doyen Funeral Home and at 1:30 p.m. at the Pleasant Valley E.U.B. Church northeast of Wellsburg.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Rev. Milton Houts and Rev. Henry Raecker were in charge of the service.

Special music consisted of a duet by Mr. and Mrs. Leland Luwe. Mrs. Edward Sietsema was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Dick W. Riekena and Mrs. Kenneth Lindaman.

Casket bearers were Harry Hook, Henry B. Hook, Grant Arends, Merle Arends, Franklin Hook and Arthur Hook.

Mr. Hook passed away at 7 o'clock Thursday at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo from complications of a stroke. He was taken to the hospital on Tuesday morning. He reached the age of 80 years, 7 months and 23 days.

He was born on a farm in Grundy County near Holland on March 11, 1886, to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hook, Sr. (nee Annie Anderson). He attended the rural school in the area. On February 21, 1912, he was united in marriage to Minnie Haan, in Aplington. To this union were born 2 daughters and 1 son. Following their marriage they moved on a farm north of Wellsburg where they resided for 24 years. In 1927 they purchased a farm and lived there until 1945, at which time they retired and moved to Wellsburg.

He was a long time member of the Wellsburg E.U.B. Church, having joined in 1923. They were privileged to celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary on February 21, 1962 at their home with their family and friends.

Those who preceded him in death were his parents, 3 brothers and 1 sister, Barney Hook, Ernest Hook, Rev. Cornelius Hook and (Dora), Mrs. Ben DeVries.

Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Minnie, 2 daughters and 1 son, Mrs. Anna Ridder of Wellsburg, John Hook of Aplington; (Jeannie), Mrs. Melvin Rewerts of Aplington; 2 sisters and 2 brothers, Rudolph Hook of Austin, Minn.; Mrs. Grace Arends of Cedar Falls, (Anna), Mrs. Charles Ackerman of LaPorte City, Herman Hook of Parkersburg; 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
