Barney Hook, Holland Died Tuesday

Barney Hook of Holland, well known in this community, died suddenly Tuesday forenoon at 9:15 a.m. of a heart attack which occurred at the John Stahl farm near Holland where he had been employed for the past 14 years. Mr. Hook and Mr. Stahl were unloading corn when the deceased was fatally stricken.

Mr. Hook was born on March 15, 1883 on a farm near Holland and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hook Sr. Most of his life was spent north of Wellsburg and at Grundy Center and Holland. He was married to Johanna DeBuhr. To this union were born four daughters and three sons. They are Henry of Davenport; Paul of Frankfort, Germany; Mrs. Genevieve Cone of Fort Dodge; Mrs. Esther Burt of Clarion; Mrs. Lois Biebersheimer of Mason City and Carol of Woodward. One son Woodrow preceded his father in death.

Brothers and sisters who survive the deceased are Henry of Wellsburg; Ernest of Reinbeck; Herman of Parkersburg; Rudolph of Austin, Minnesota; and Rev. Corneil Hook of Fort Snelling, Minnesota; Mrs. Pete Arends of Cedar Falls and Mrs. Charles Ackerman of LaPorte City; Mrs. Ben DeVries of Wellsburg preceded the deceased in death in February of 1950.

Funeral services will be held this week Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Colfax Center Presbyterian church. Interment will be made in the Pleasant Valley Evangelical United Brethren cemetery.
