Frederic William Eberline

Frederic William, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Eberline, was born September 23, 1887, in Pleasant Valley township, Grundy county, Iowa. He was an exceptionally dutiful and kindhearted son and brother. The parents say "Never an angry word was given them nor his sisters or brothers." This says much. Sunday, March 26, he commenced to complain of severe pain in the region of his stomach and took gradually worse until Saturday morning, April 1, 1905, when he called the parents, brothers and sisters and also the relatives present to his bedside to bid them good-bye requesting them like wise to say good bye to others he could not see. He stated repeatedly that he was going home to heaven. His last words were, "good-bye all" and then passed to his rest to await the arrival of the remaining members of the family. He leaves his parents, four sisters, three brothers, one brother having gone before and numerous other relatives to mourn his early farewell to this world.

The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at the E.A. church in Pleasant Valley township. Rev. C. F. Hillman officiated. Services were held in both German and English, text, Job 5:18, Isa. 28:29.

The funeral was attended by several hundred friends of the deceased and family. Fifty eight teams followed the remains to the cemetery. The members of the family of Mr. and Mrs. Eberline who came from abroad to attend the funeral were two sisters and one brother of Mr. Eberline, Mrs. L. Kuter of Joliet, Ill., Mrs. Henry Sorge of Sumner, Iowa, and Wm. Eberline of George, Iowa. Two brothers of Mrs. Eberline, Gus. Benz of Ellsworth, Minn., and Wm. Benz and wife of Grundy Center. Oscar and Chas. Fritzel of Grundy Center were also present besides a host of friends from Wellsburg, Ackley, Aplington, Parkersburg and surrounding towns. The family has the sympathy of the whole county in their bereavement.
