Rites on Tuesday For Siemen Aukes, Wellsburg Farmer

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon in the Pleasant Valley Evangelical United Brethren Church for Siemen D. Aukes, 78, who had farmed 3 1/2 miles north of Wellsburg since 1917.

Rev. M. R. Houts was in charge of the service. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Douglas Geerdes, Harm Aukes, Chris Trepp, Verne Reiher, Roy Aukes and Marvin Westendorf. Music for the service was furnished by Mrs. M. R. Houts and Mrs. Doyle Bausman. Mrs. John Frey and Mrs. John Hook were flower attendants.

Mr. Aukes was stricken with a heart attack at his home early Saturday morning and died enroute to the Grundy County Memorial hospital. He had been in poor health for some time.

Siemen D. Aukes was born on January 21, 1882, in Grundy county, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Aukes, Sr.

He was united in marriage to Lillian Arends on March 18, 1917, at Steen, Minnesota. The couple moved to the Aukes farm north of Wellsburg, where they were to spend their entire married lives together.

Mr. Aukes was a faithful member of the Pleasant Valley Evangelical United Brethren Church, which he had served as a trustee as well as a treasurer for many years.

The deceased is survived by the widow and one daughter, Eunice, at home; three brothers, Dick of Steen, Minn., Edze of Allison and Ben of Wellsburg; and one sister, Mrs. Dick Tellinghuisen of Allison.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, who died in 1933; his parents; four brothers, Fred of Alexandria, Minn., Reinder of Sioux Falls, S. Dak., John of Wellsburg, and Helmut, who was killed during World War I; also three sisters, Mrs. Henry Westendorf, Mrs. Reinert Reiher, and Mrs. Henry Trepp, all of whom had lived at Allison.
