Military Rites For Roger Aukes

Roger Aukes, age 58, of Lucas, Iowa, formerly of Wellsburg, Iowa, passed away Sunday, June 23, 1996, at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 26, 1996, at the United Methodist Church in Parkersburg, Iowa, with Rev. James Beranek officiating. Burial, with military rites, was held at the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church cemetery, near Wellsburg.

He was born November 8, 1938, in Grundy Center to Harm and Lena (Rewerts) Aukes. He graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1957. Roger served in the U.S. Army for three years.

On October 12, 1960, Roger was united in marriage to Carol Pruisner of Parkersburg, Iowa.

Roger served as Cub Scout Master and was on the board of the Iowa Turkey Federation, enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing.

Roger was a U.S. Postal Mail Carrier for 33 years in Wellsburg and Lucas and was a member of the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church near Wellsburg.

Survivors include his wife, Carol of Lucas; a daughter, Sheila Duhn of Cambridge, Iowa; three sons, Scott of Macksburg, Iowa; Alan of Fairfield, Iowa; and Anthony of Colorado Springs, Colorado. There are also eight grandchildren; his mother Lena Aukes of Parkersburg; three sisters, Karen Shelton of Cedar Falls, Linda Bachman of Kansas City, Missouri, Kathy Groen of Parkersburg, Iowa; two brothers, Clarence of Parkersburg, Iowa, and Harold of Wellsburg, Iowa.

Roger was preceded in death, by his father, Harm Aukes, on January 1996.

The Schwartz Funeral Home of Parkersburg was in charge of funeral arrangements.
