Harm Aukes Services Held Wednesday

Harm D. Aukes, 79, of Parkersburg, formerly of Wellsburg, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 1996, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, of natural causes.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 10, 1996, at the United Methodist Church in Parkersburg, Iowa, the Reverend James Beranek officiating. Burial followed in the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church Cemetery, rural Wellsburg, Iowa.

Pallbearers were Alan Aukes, Bradley Aukes, Brent Aukes, Bob Bachman, Kevin Groen, and Steve Miller.

Harm was born on June 28, 1916, the son of Benjamin and Flora (Kuper) Aukes in Grundy County, Iowa. He was united in marriage with Lena Rewerts on June 28, 1938, in Ackley Evangelical Parsonage by the Reverend Beuerman.

Harm was a member of the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, rural Wellsburg.

He enjoyed singing with the Silver Beavers in Parkersburg and loved entertaining at various nursing homes in the area. He also enjoyed helping out his daughter at the Black Hawk Rollerdome. He was very good at fixing things and never hesitated to help anyone.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marion Kuper and Lois Bakker; two granddaughters, Denise and Leisha Aukes; and one son-in-law, Gene Shelton.

Survivors include his wife, Lena of Parkersburg; three sons, Roger and wife Carol of Lucas, Iowa, Clarence of Parkersburg, and Harold and wife Roberta of Wellsburg; three daughters, Karen Shelton of Cedar Falls, Linda Bachman and husband Bill of Riverside, Missouri, and Cathy Groen and husband Mike of Parkersburg; two sisters, Lorene Evert of Mesa, Arizona, and Iva Terry and husband Charles of Kimberling, Missouri; seventeen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established. The Doyen-Abels Funeral home of Wellsburg, Iowa, was in charge of the professional arrangements.
