Denise Jo Aukes

Denise Aukes, age 14, Parkersburg, died early Sunday morning, Feb. 15, 1976 from injuries suffered in a one car accident which occurred one mile east of Stout.

Denise Jo Aukes was born the daughter of Clarence and Sally Weichers Aukes on Jan. 30, 1962, in Grundy Center, Iowa. She was a student in 8th grade in the Aplington Community School and was active in Jr. High basketball. Denise was a member of the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, rural Wellsburg, where she was an active Sunday School student and sang in their choir.

She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Aukes; three sisters, Nancy 16, Peggy 10 and Jamie 8, all at home; her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harm Aukes of Wellsburg; her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Weichers of Wellsburg; her paternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Fred Rewerts of Parkersburg; and her two maternal great-grandmothers, Mrs. Earl Eygabroad of Wellsburg and Mrs. Dick Weichers of Wellsburg.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Leisha Aukes, in 1965.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1976 at the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, rural Wellsburg, with Rev. John O. Kilmer officiating. Mrs. Sidney Penning and Mrs. Gary Steinfeldt sang "My God and I" and Mrs. Edward Sietsema was the organist. Casketbearers were Billie Spree, Dalon DeBoer, Randy Murra, Brent Schipper, Kent Winterberg, Wade Aukes, Clint Uhlenhopp and Wade Bertram. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Parkersburg was in charge of funeral arrangements.
