John Aukes Passed Away Last Friday After Long Illness
John D. Aukes, a prominent and long time farmer of the community north of Wellsburg, passed away Friday, Oct. 10 at the home farm. He had been in failing health for some time. He would have been 62 years of age on Oct. 23.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 1:00 o'clock at the home and later at the Pleasant Valley Evangelical Church, with Rev. A. K. Henning officiating. Interment was in the Pleasant Valley church cemetery.
Music was furnished by Miss Phyllis Bausman, soloist, with Mrs. Edw. Sietsema as accompanist. Floral attendants were Ruth Frey, Joyce Sietsema, Violet Schneekloth. Pallbearers were Albert Huisman, Ben Lauterbach, Melvin Reeverts, Elmer Schneekloth, L. J. Groninga, Jake Hippen.
John D. Aukes, son of Dick and Maria Aukes was born near Wellsburg, Iowa, on Oct. 23, 1885 and died at his home near Wellsburg on Oct. 10, 1947, at the age of 61 years, 11 months and 17 days. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, two brothers, Fred and Helmut and two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Trepp and Mrs. Margaret Westendorf.
He leaves to mourn his all too timely death his dear companion Helen Aukes; six children, Virginia, Virgil, Evelin, Lavonne, Wayne and Dale; seven brothers and sisters, Etze, Dick, Reiner, Simon and Ben Aukes, Mrs. Gretje Tellinghusen, Mrs. Mary Reiher, and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was united in marriage with Helen Evert on Nov. 20, 1927 and to this union six children were born.
He was brought up in the Pleasant Valley Evangelical United Brethren Church of which he was a member up to the time of his death. He died with a wonderful faith in God, without any doubt or fear for the change. He was a tender husband and a good father who will long be remembered by his bereaved family. He will be missed by all his friends and neighbors.
