HAXTON, BENSON

Sumner Haxton was born in Bradford county, Pa., Dec. 8, 1684[sic]. He came with his parents to Illinois in the early 50's and to Grundy county in 1863. He was married soon after to Minerva Benson and located on their farm in No. 2 Felix where they resided until about six years ago when they moved to Whitten where he departed this life Sept. 25, 1903 after an illness of about four weeks. Deceased leaves a wife, one son, A. S. Haxton, now living on the home place and one daughter, Mrs. Wm. Long, of Grundy Center. He is also survived by six sisters and one brother.

He was a friend to everybody making friends wherever he went and his familiar figure will be missed on the streets as well as at home. Funeral services were held at the Christian church where he had been a regular attendant conducted by Rev. Curless and the remains laid to rest in the Benson cemetery Sunday afternoon.
