Thomas B. Eggleston was born Dec. 9, 1827, in Dusham, England. At the age of 25 he came to the United States remaining two years in New York after which he went to Shellsburg, Wis., where on Nov. 22, 1855, he was married to Martha J. Raine.

To this union were born eleven children, two of whom preceded him home. Mary aged two died in 1863 and Charles R., who died July 14, 1879, age 23 years. Deceased leaves a wife who has been faithful to him for over 49 years and five sons and four daughters. One sister, Mrs. Ann Platt, of Cable, Ill., is the only survivor of seven children.

His early married life was spent on the farm and in the lead mines in Southern Wisconsin. In 1873 he came to Iowa and settled on a farm in Felix township, Grundy county, where he lived until Dec. 27, 1900, when he, with his wife and youngest daughter, Marion, moved to Whitten, Iowa, where he continued to reside until his Master called him to come at eight o'clock p.m., March 5, 1905, the entire family being present when the end came.

Deceased in early life united with the Church of England and has ever since lived true to the faith then established.

Short services were held at the house. The remains were laid to rest in the Benson cemetery Tuesday. The services were conducted by Rev. Davis of the M.E. church.
