Mrs. VanHauen, Sr. Dead
Mrs. Henry VanHauen, Sr., who has been ill for the past several weeks with grippe and other troubles died Monday morning. During the first part of her illness her life was despaired of but she rallied and the family had hopes of her recovery, but she was taken worse again and her death occurred as above stated. The funeral services were held from the house this morning at ten o'clock, conducted by Revs. Plescher and Schafer, the interment taking place in the cemetery at the Schafer church in Grundy county. Mrs. VanHauen was born in Germany in 1924, being 79 years and eight months old at the time of her death. She was married to Henry VanHauen in 1849. Of this union four boys and one girl are living, all of whom were present at their mother's funeral. She came with her husband and family --unreadable-- in 1870, settling at Freeport, Illinois where the family lived for several years. Monday was Mr. VanHauen's eightieth birthday, the day of his wife's death. The couple had been married fifty-four years, more than one-half of their married life being spent in Butler county. The bereaved family have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends in their bereavement. One by one the pioneers go, but they have left behind a heritage so great that future generations will call them blessed.--Parkersburg Eclipse
