End Comes At Eldora Thursday For John Essig

John Essig, who for many years resided on a farm in Melrose township and who was an extensive Grundy county landowner, died at his home in Eldora last Thursday. He had been in failing health during the past two years. His health declined gradually from the time he submitted to a leg amputation two years ago.

Funeral services conducted by the Methodist minister at Eldora were held at Eldora last Saturday. Burial was in the Methodist cemetery in Melrose township.

Mr. Essig was 79 years old. He was born in Ontario, Canada. At the age of 15 he came to Iowa and was employed on farms in Grundy county. Later he was married to Emma Sayer of Melrose township. The couple began housekeeping in Melrose township and continued to live there until about 20 years ago when they moved to Eldora to make their permanent home. Mr. Essig retained his two farms in Melrose township up to the time of his death.

Surviving are the wife, a son John and a daughter, Mrs. Herman Boike, both living in Grundy county. A son, Fred, died a number of years ago. Other relatives are a sister, Mrs. Nelson Snovel, Eldora, and a brother, Jake Essig of Grundy Center.
