Annie Swanetta Oelmann, age 92, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the daughter of John Henry and Jennie (Meester) Oelmann on September 11, 1921, on the Oelmann farm in Beaver Township, Grundy County. Annie went to rural school, Beaver #3, through the eighth grade. She then attended Parkersburg High School and graduated in 1938. She took part in YMCA, Pep Club, plays and played the violin in the orchestra.

Annie was a farmer all her life. She milked the cows and churned lots of butter for the family. For many years, she raised ducks for meat and feathers. Annie loved to make pies with home grown fruit, especially mulberry pies. She loved growing flowers and gardening and she also did a lot of canning. Annie lived with her parents until her father died at age 92, when she purchased a small home in Parkersburg. Annie enjoyed many years at the Senior Center and sang with the “Silver Beavers” for 16 years. She enjoyed entertaining at many senior centers with her poems and readings. She took tole painting lessons and loved to paint birds and butterflies. Annie learned to sew and embroider at the age of seven and did lots of sewing for nieces and nephews and she also made most of her own clothes.

Annie was a faithful member of the Reformed Church of Stout where she attended Sunday School, Catechism and women’s group. Annie helped with chicken suppers, picnics and funeral fellowships for as long as she was able.

Annie died Sunday, April 20, 2014, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. She is preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Johanna Heyenga.

Annie is survived by nieces and a nephew, Mary (Larry) Smith of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Cathy (Al) Humke of Cedar Falls, Iowa, John Heyenga of Waterloo, Iowa, Joyce (Matt) Whipps of West Des Moines, Iowa; Great nieces and nephews, Aaron Smith, Adam Smith and Andrea Smith all of Broken Arrow, Daniel (Kristin) Humke of Cedar Falls, Sarah Humke of Madison, Wisconsin, and Laura Humke of Des Moines, Iowa; one Great Great-nephew, Josiah Humke; two cousins, Ann Aswegen of Ackley, Iowa, and Harlan (Dorothy) Oelmann of Dumfries, Virginia.

Funeral Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April, 24, 2014, at the Reformed Church of Stout, with burial in the Stout Cemetery, both in Stout, Iowa.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg, and one hour before services at the church.

Memorials may be directed the Reformed Church of Stout.
