Marlys Heyenga, 72
Marlys Ivadean Heyenga, of Stout, died Thursday, August 5, 1999, at the Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls of a heart aneurysm. She reached the age of 72 years, six months and two days.
Funeral services were held on Monday, August 9 at 1:30 p.m. at the Reformed Church of Stout with Rev. David Powers officiating. Burial was in the Stout Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Justin Bartlett, Brad Heyenga, Jerry Stahl, Luke Bartlett, John Heyenga and Alan Stahl.
Marlys was born the daughter of Harm and Mattie (Meester) Stahl of February 3, 1927, in Grundy Center. She was raised on a farm south of Grundy Center, just past the fair grounds. Marlys received her education from the Grundy Center High School and graduated in 1945. She received a two-year business degree from the Gates Business College in Waterloo.
On June 9, 1948 Marlys Stahl was united in marriage with Calvin Heyenga at the Reformed Church of Stout by Rev. W. J. Heyenga, Calvin's father. They made their home in Cedar Falls until 1967 when they bought the Stout Grocery Store. They owned and operated it until 1979 at which time they built and moved into their present home. In August of 1979 Marlys became a Librarian at the U.N.I. Lab School in Cedar Falls and retired in 1992.
Marlys was a member of the Reformed Church of Stout and served on the Ladies Guild for many years. She enjoyed sewing, making crafts and quilting with many of her friends. Marlys especially liked visiting with friends and relatives.
Marlys was preceded in death by her parents.
Marlys is survived by her husband Calvin Heyenga of Stout; three sons, Ron and Carol Heyenga of Norman, OK, Daryl and Shirley Heyenga of Eau Claire, WI and Dennis and Terry Heyenga of Cedar Falls; one daughter, Carol and Ron Bartlett of Cedar Falls; seven grandchildren, Heidi, Lester, Bailey, Jordan and Bradley Heyenga and Justin and Luke Bartlett; and one brother, Don and Marge Stahl of Grundy Center.
Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg, was in charge of the arrangements.
