Jennie Lauterbach, 102

Jennie Lauterbach, 102 years and nine months, of Ravenwood Health Care Center, Waterloo, formerly of Aplington, died Saturday, April 17, 1999 at Ravenwood Health Care Center of natural causes.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, at Stout Reformed Church with Rev. Jim Blair officiating. Interment was in the Stout Reformed Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Randy Konken, George Viet, Harley Hartman, Harvey Eiklenberg, Harold DeBeer and Dale Holub.

Jennie was born July 18, 1896 at Aplington the daughter of Roelf and Meta Auffarth Meyer. She attended school in Aplington, graduating from high school with the Class of 1913. She was united in marriage to Uffe Lauterbach on December 17, 1919. They moved to Stout where they farmed for 43 years.

She joined the First Reformed Church of Aplington on March 1, 1914 and later transferred to the Stout Reformed Church and then to First Presbyterian Church of Aplington. She taught Sunday School and Catechism classes for many years in Aplington and Stout.

In December 1962 they moved to Aplington where they spent nearly 15 years in retirement together. Jennie entered Ravenwood Health Care Center on March 10, 1993.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Uffe in September 1977; a son, Paul in September 1955; her parents; three brothers, Albert, Frederick and Henry, three sisters, Bessie Bierman, Anna Meyer and Wilhelmine Schnucker; and one sister and three brothers in infancy (two boys were twins).

Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Rooney of Council Bluffs and Gertrude Burch of Cedar Falls; a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Bokhoven of Pella, three grandsons, Paul Burch, David Rooney and Kevin Rooney; four great-grandsons; one brother, Alfred Meyer of LaHabra, CA; three sisters, Flora Mehmen of Aplington, Margaret Klooster of Aplington and Marie Meyer of Webster City; and many nieces and nephews.
