Ernest Kliege Services Held
Ernest J. Kliege, of Dike, passed away Thursday, April 23, at Covenant Medical Center of cancer, having attained the age of 84 years, 3 months and 6 days.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 25, at 3:30 p.m. at the Reformed Church at Stout. Burial was in the Stout Cemetery. Virgil Dykstra officiated.
Pallbearers were Jeff Stickfort, Jim Evjen, Greg Stickfort, Lee Saathoff, Jim Saathoff and Dave Batchelder.
Honorary pallbearer was Kirk Clouse.
Ernest was born on January 17, 1914, in rural Parkersburg the son of John and Phena (Rottink) Kliege. He attended a rural school near his home. He was united in marriage to Esther Venenga on January 20, 1937, at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkersburg. Ernest farmed around Parkersburg for 4 years before the couple moved to New Hartford to farm for 12 years. The past 44 years were spent on their farm south of Stout.
Earl was a member of the Reformed Church of Stout.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; and an infant grandson.
Survivors include his wife, Esther of Dike; 2 daughters Mary and husband Frank Servantez of Mason City and Martha and husband Arnold Saathoff of Dike; 7 grandchildren, Jeffery Stickfort of Temple, Texas, Rose and husband Jin Evjen of Portland, Texas, Pam and husband Kirk Clouse of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Gregory and wife Shelly Stickfort of Cedar Rapids, Lee Saathoff of Atlantic, Deanna Saathoff of Des Moines and Jim Saathoff of Dike; 4 great-grandchildren, Alissa and Micaela Clouse and Ian and Haley Stickfort; 2 brothers, Elmer Kliege of Aplington and Johnnie and Jeanette Kliege of Parkersburg.
The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the arrangements.
