Rites Held for Reinhard Kalkwarf

Reinhard Kalkwarf died at the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital on Saturday, December 11. He reached the age of 90 years, 4 months and 28 days.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 13, at the Reformed Church of Stout with Pastor Don Ringnalda officiating.

Pallbearers were Rudy Rops, Leroy Rops, Mark Blythe, John Kalkwarf, Randal Kalkwarf and Douglas Kalkwarf.

Interment was in Stout Cemetery, Stout.

Reinhard of the Grundy County Long Term Care, and formerly of rural Dike, was born the son of Reint and Brechtje Memenga Kalkwarf on July 13, 1903, in Grundy County, south of Parkersburg. He received his education in rural school near his home.

On January 6, 1927, Reinhard was united in marriage to Marie Berends in Stout. Following their marriage they lived in Wellsburg for a few years, then moved to a farm north of Dike. They farmed and Marie helped Reinhard with his clock repair business. They moved to the Long Term Care in Grundy Center in June of 1988.

Reinhard Kalkwarf was a life long and faithful member of the Reformed Church of Stout.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie on November 7, 1989; 2 grandchildren, Steven Mooty and Kathleen Rops; his parents; 1 brother, Charley Kalkwarf; and 3 sisters, Flora Alter, Reka Kaput and Vina Haack.

Reinhard is survived by his 2 sons, Reinhard Kalkwarf and his wife, Emma, of Grundy Center, and George Kalkwarf and his wife, Sally, of Waterloo; 2 daughters, Berniece (Mrs. Ernest) Blythe of Grundy Center, and Marlys (Mrs. John) Rops of Mason City; 20 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Henry Kalkwarf of Allison; and 2 sisters, Dena Webrand of Grundy Center and Fannie Huisman of Grundy Center.

Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
