Uffe Lauterbach Died In Hospital

Uffe Lauterbach, Aplington, age 81, died of lung cancer, Thursday, Sept. 29, 1977, at Allen Hospital in Waterloo.

Funeral services were held in the First Presbyterian church of Aplington, on Monday, Oct. 3, at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Orr officiating. Burial was in the Stout Cemetery. Schwartz-Engelkes Funeral Home were in charge of funeral arrangements.

Uffe Lauterbach, son of Ait and Wemke Meinders Lauterbach, was born Feb. 5, 1896 near Britt, Iowa.

He joined the First Reformed Church of Aplington on July 22, 1917, later transferring to the Stout Reformed Church, where he served as deacon for several years.

In February 1918 he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was wounded Oct. 10, 1918 while fighting on the Hindenburg line.

He was united in marriage with Jennie Meyer on Dec. 17, 1919. They moved to the Stout area where they farmed for 43 years. Retiring in the fall of 1962, they moved to Aplington and joined the First Presbyterian Church.

Left to mourn are his wife, Jennie; 2 daughters, Ruth, Mrs. Ned Rooney of Council Bluffs, and Gertrude, Mrs. John F. Burch of Cedar Falls; 3 grandsons, Paul Burch, David and Kevin Rooney; 3 brothers, Ait of Clarksville, Brunk and John of Parkersburg; 3 sisters, Mrs. Ida Juel of Ackley, Mrs. Martha Peters of Parkersburg, Mrs. John Harbach of Waterloo.

Uffe was preceded in death by a son, Paul, in 1955, parents, 2 brothers, Geike and Ben, 1 sister, Wempke, and 1 brother and 3 sisters who died in infancy.
